Rescue
Training Dummies / Mannequins / Manikins
The range has evolved
after years of research and development to offer an extremely durable
rescue dummy that can safely be used in situations too hazardous
or uncomfortable for human volunteers. Used by fire & rescue
services worldwide (100% of the UK fire services), military personnel
and all other emergency services, Ruth Lee training dummies are
perfect for simulating rescues from height, confined spaces, static
and fast flowing water or extrication from vehicles and collapsed
buildings.
Most models available
for next day delivery (subject to numbers)
Range includes:

General
Purpose
These robust, “market
leading” rescue training dummies are realistic in size and
weight, each one is produced using a weighted inner core and an
outer carcass seperated by flame retardant foaml.
The flexible inner core
is weighted to human proportions using 2Kg packets of 8-10 mm aggregate,
the packets are sewn into a Nylon 'inner dummy', with all the body
parts (arms, legs, chest etc) held in place using Polypropylene
webbing. This method of construction prevents 'slumping' of the
aggregate and allows the dummy to maintain it's shape when in use,
The outer layer of durable,
rot proof 425g Canvas has all seams double stitched and is further
reinforced with high density polypropylene webbing for improved
abrasion. The two layers are separated and padded using 25mm Polyurethane
foam.
The optional protective
overalls keep the dummy clean and greatly increases the life span;
they are produced using cotton/polyester woven fabric (conforms
to prEN 470:1994) and are reinforced with high density polypropylene
webbing in identified high stress areas, the ends of the arms are
further protected with Nylon reinforced PVC.
They are available in
all sizes and are machine washable.
All training dummies of
20Kg (44lbs) and over are supplied complete with Wellington boots,
the boots greatly protect the legs if the dummy is dragged along
the ground.
All dummies are screen
printed with a warning triangle, a handling risk note and the date
of manufacture on the head.
Hazmat
The general purpose models (adult size) are
all available in a strong reinforced P.V.C, these are constructed
in exactly the same way as the GP models. These dummies are ideal
for incidents involving chemicals, oil etc as the dummy can be thoroughly
washed down after use.
Flame Retardant
These high specification,
flame retardant dummies (not shown in images) demonstrate a good
balance between temperature and abrasion resistance. Construction
is the same as the GP dummy, but using a blend of Kevlar/Nomex for
the inner core and a glass fibre material for the outer carcass.
The protective overalls
are made using a 225 g/m2 PBI Gold (the material of choice for most
fire tunic manufacturers) which provides excellent heat and abrasion
resistance. A separate hood, also made in PBI Gold completely covers
the head, this makes the fitting of replacement overalls considerably
easier. All the materials are stitched using a Meta-aramid sewing
thread.
All FR training dummies
are now fitted with heat resistant Firefighters safety boots supplied
by Hunter boots, the boots greatly extend the life of the dummy
protecting the legs if the dummy is dragged along the ground.
These dummies are now
available in both 30Kg (66lbs) and 50Kg (110 lbs) weights.
Water
Rescue
Developed
in conjunction with the R.N.L.I, Greater Manchester Fire Service
Water Incident Support Section and The British Navy; the Water Rescue
dummies perfectly simulate an unconscious casualty in water. They
will float at an angle of approx 45 degrees with just the head and
shoulders being visible, however the overalls supplied have integral
pockets that enable the user to add buoyancy or weight if required,
to alter the dummy's position in the water.
A recent development
has been the use of yellow P.V.C to signify the front (face) of
the rescue training dummy, with red P.V.C to the back, this simple
modification allows instructors to see from a distance that the
rescuer is responding appropriately, tipping the head back out of
the water and recovering the casualty in the correct manner.
Construction
is as per General Purpose training dummies, but using a heavy-duty
Nylon mesh and closed cell foam. The mesh allows the water to flood
out of the dummy as it is being recovered, it further allows better
ventilation when the dummy is hung up to dry. Strong plastic strips
run from the shoulder area to the knee joint, these strips allow
flexibility in and out of the water, but do not allow the dummy
to bend in half; this modification facilitates easier rescues using
rescue stretchers in the water.
The Water Rescue dummies
can now be supplied in two forms, 'man overboard' or 'search and
rescue'. The man overboard dummy is supplied with bright orange
overalls and reflective tape on the headband and is designed to
be as conspicuous as possible. The Search and rescue model is supplied
with black overalls, no reflective tape and an optional black mesh
hood to cover the head; the idea is to make it as inconspicuous
as possible to enable the rescue teams to practice their search,
as well as their recovery techniques
New models

Bariatric
(obese) training dummy
We designed this dummy to achieve
a 'fluidity of movement' that would simulate an obese patient exactly
and I believe we have achieved just that. We based the bariatric dummy
around a standard 100Kg dummy and the extra bulk is built up with several
layers of weight and foam. Rather than just adding an 80Kg lump,
we have distributed the weight around the body in 160 x 1/2
Kg packets of steel shot, a very time consuming process! The
weighted layers are all encased in 1/2 inch foam which in turn
is covered fine Nylon, the foam layers are also covered in
Nylon and this allows all the different layers to slip and slide over
each other creating a real feeling of 'flabby skin'.
Promove,
an innovative company from Aberystwyth has created a sling for moving
and handling incapacitated or disabled, including bariatric individuals
weighing up to 45 stone in confined spaces where a hoist cannot
be used. We feel sure this piece of equipment will be of use to
all the emergency services; full details can be seen on www.promove.uk.com

Multi-trauma
We
have just developed a completely new model called 'accident
prone', this dummy combines the features of the Bomb Blast and impaled
dummies and has a removable arm and leg (limbs can be firmly
re-attached if required to allow the dummy to be used in the standard
way) a nd a hole through it's shoulder, through which a scaffold
pole, fence post or reinforcing bar can be inserted; this dummy also
has more of a neck allowing for the use of neck collars if required.
The idea of all these features is to make the training scenarios
for your staff far more interesting and realistic.
'Talking dummy'
We are always trying to introduce new ideas into our range and we
are currently canvassing opinions on the development of a
'talking dummy'! This would consist of a speaker built into the head
of the dummy and a remote microphone operated by the training staff,
the dummy could shout out in pain, give an indication of it's position
or the extent of it's injuries.
